The Primary Difference Between The HTML And Java Script Opt-in Form
With Aweber’s mailing list service, you are provided with the option of using a javascript or html opt-in form on your website. This article will help you comprehend the major differences, so you can decide which opt-in form is best for your list building efforts.
List building is the process of acquiring subscribers for your autoresponder. An auto-responder is a mailing list that allows you to send out a series of follow-up messages to your mailing list. An opt-in form is the web form people must fill out in order to subscribe to your mailing list.
With a Javascript web form, you don’t have to change your website forms when you make changes to them because when you save your changes, in the back office of your Aweber account, the modifications automatically take effect on your webpages.
Another benefit to using Javascript web forms is that it allows Aweber to track stats in your account, which is a very important feature in testing your conversion rates.
The biggest problem with a Javascript web form is that it’s difficult to customize it the way you want it to appear on your site.
My biggest problem with Javascript is that the form is invisible in the web page editer, so it’s possible to erase the form by mistake if you are not careful. My solution to this is simply to insert an invisible table to place the Javascript I know exactly where the form is sitting on the page.
Html forms, on the other hand, are visible in your html editer, and you can edit it’s appearance, such as the title and button text, along with the other content on your web pages.
The downside to html web forms is that when ever you make changes to your web form in the back office of Aweber, you must then replace your old web form with the new web form and then re-upload the page to your website before the changes take effect.
This can be very time consuming, specifically when you have a content site with tons of web pages and your web form is on each page. Personally, this was the motivation that finally got me to switch to Javascript.
Most of my previous sites, were single lead generation pages. However, when I started my content site, and kept having to update more and more pages as my site grew, I realized it was more efficient to switch to Javascript.
So it really depends on your site setup and your personal preference. If your site is a simple one-page lead capture page then the html format won’t be as much of hassle web sites that have lots of pages to update. However, if you want to track your stats, then you should use the Javascript form.
When in doubt, I recommend you go with Javascript, but it’s really up to you to decide what List Building mechanism to use…your the primary decision maker!
