How to increase online business income, back Selling & cross Selling is the answer

March 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

The business models for online business are more dynamic than brick & mortar businesses. So one needs to keep a tag on developments in search engines, impact of new online marketing media like Blogs, Social Marketing, Mobile Marketing. Whatever model you follow, getting traffic & good conversion rate decide the effectiveness of a marketing channel & success of online business. Once you have found a tried and tested system that helps you effectively sell your products online, stick to it while keeping a tag on new developments in search engine marketing, blog marketing & other developments in internet marketing. Online marketing system can be gradually developed to work as an automated system that acts as your sales agent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even when you’re offline.

Have you followed this basic model so far?

Here is the checklist:

Have you identified your target market?
Do you know the product to sell to your market segment?
Have you optimized the website search engines
Do you have a plan for promoting your website, through search engine marketing, article marketing, forum marketing, blogs, and getting back links?
Have you come up with a sales page for your product?
Are you getting good traffic & unique visitors for your sales page?
Have you integrated a follow-up system in your website?
Have you calculated your returns per sales against the current price for your product?

When everything mentioned above is in place, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t earn substantial profits.

The only concern left at that point is ‘how to sustain your profit?’. Surely, if you keep getting a regular stream of visitors for your web page, you’d be able to generate sales & profits. But you should remember online business can be more competitive & should always aim for reatining your customers while planning for bigger market share.

And this can be done through cross-selling and back selling.

Cross-selling involves the sale of products related to the main products you are selling. For example, you are selling an eBook on yoga training. You could offer supportive products like herbal nutrients, health care products and othee products in these categories. You may not have these products, you can find online businesses offering these items, and you can sign up as their affiliate. As an affiliate, you just have to refer people for these products’ sales page, and when the visitors you refer decide to make some purchases, you earn a commission for every sale!

Back selling involves offering your other products at the points of sale, mostly done after selling one product online. For example if you are offering your new ebook say for $19.95, your can offer resale rights for another $19.95 or more when the customer sees the tahnkyou page after making the payment. Points of sale are the moments when your customers is most willing to purchase a second product if he is offered a good deal. Alternatively the offer for the second product can be made using a pop up windows. But most marketers will prefer the thank you page.

If you manage to integrate cross-selling and back selling strategies in well designed & specific points of a website, it will sure add to profits.
