Word of Mouth Advertising is certainly the oldest, the most effective and the least expensive market promotion that also enjoys high conversion.
While word of mouth advertising works very well for products that has established itself, it cannot be used to launch a new product. The obvious reason is when a product is still unknown no one can recommend or speak about it. Different techniques need to be used for promoting a new product. These may be like giving free samples, allowing users to test a product, getting ensdorsement from a well known celebrity who has personally used the product.
Now with the arrival of social networking web sites & other web 2.0 tools, word-of-mouth advertising is emerging in a more effective reincarnated form. Blog Advertising, Social Communities and social networking sites are the new media that are being used as the new channels for word-of-mouth marketing.
