Does Twitter compliment Blogging and can it replace a blog?

June 22nd, 2009 · No Comments

Twitter is microblogging that compliments Blogging and can’t replace a blog

Micro-blogging has arrived with Twitter and is redefining blogging, search engine marketing, social networking  and more is yet to come.  Twitter is not a full fledged blog. It is simply a way to connect to get your words out to the masses in a more natural and convenient manner. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons twitter will not replace a blog.

The first reason, Twitter can never replace a blog is because you can only post up to 140 characters at any one time. There is just no way to write 200 - 1000 words into such a small space.  So if you are sharing and connecting with friends to let them know your daily grind, projects successes and failures, Twitter is the best application.

While twittering you don’t need to be structured and you do not unduly stress yourself while twittering. You do it in an informal style and tone with free flow of thoughts, just like you do with friends across while sipping coffee or while walking in the campus.

Excessive twittering and not following a natural writing style does not work, it may cause you to lose followers and your goal with Twitter is to gain  friends and build relationships. You want twitter to be a tool that leads to your business objective – your blog – the place where you share your story, product, or business or whatever you choose.
Twitter gives you a sense of sharing in real time with people having similar interest and outlook and thay will understand you better. It gives you an unstructured way to share your interests using the # tags.  It allows you to search and see what other people are doing in real time in the domain of your interest.
It is the real time sharing and searching that makes twittering so popular.

Another reason why you can never replace your blog with simple tweets is because you just don’t have the same control to customize. Sure you can create a profile that says something about you but not the way you can with your blog. With a blog you can customize the look and feel of your blog.  You can add tools, plug-ins, and even more networking opportunities through your blog. You can’t do all that with Twitter.
