As the internet media evolves from google adsense, social networking, blogs, twitter and text link ads - a new announcements from Microsoft surely adds chilly & spice to the `evolution of internet media` and a new trend will be born in the world of online media.
Microsoft is offering ad-supported version of Microsoft office. This annoucement was made at one Morgan Stanley Technology Conference in San Francisco, announcemenrt coming from Microsoft Business Division president Stephen Elop.
This is spicy, big and a new trend because it opens doors for application developers to generate development funds from media ads. If this experiment succeeds, it will usher into a new era of ad (relevant) supported business applications.
Relevant ads is very important. I do not know how will Microsoft make the ads relevant to the user. It may not be difficult as every free use will be asked to register and Microsoft will certainly plan to profile the users for piping relevant ads of interest to the user. If that happens with a fair degree of success, it will be certainly a win-win story for Microsoft, user, advertiser - just like google adsense is for google. Ad-supported version of Microsoft Office 14 is expected to hit stores in 2010.
In addition to ad revenue, the free version will certainly create upsell opportunities for Microsoft.
The free concept was considered alongside Albany — the code name for a subscription-based model of Microsoft Office and will become real in 2010. Whatsoever, creating revenue opportunities from online business applications is the next phenomenon in the making.
The entry of world leader in business products Microsoft is definitely going to impact the way we use business applications, find new products and the online internet media.
